Before the actual launch of the Tata Nano, there was much hype for this car. Almost a year before the launch, Ratan Tata had promised to create a midsize car that would cost as less as 100,000 rupees, i.e. roughly $2,500. The main motive of creating such a car was that the Tata Group wanted to bring the automobile transportation to the mainstream population of India. To allure more customers, the car has been a given a nickname of “People’s Car”. The mainstream Indian population saw the car first time at the New Delhi Auto Expo.
At the time of the launch of the Tata Nano, Ratan Tata drove the white bubble car and said that it is not a prototype and it is not a concept car. The stunning features of the Tata Nano seem to be tempting for anybody who wishes to drive a four wheeler in a less budget. It comes with four doors and is slightly more than 10 feet long. The width of the car is just 5 feet and it is powered with a 623cc two-cylinder engine, which is located at the back of the car. Tata Nano is capable of giving 65 miles an hour with its 33 horsepower. The handling of the car has been paid special attention and the small four wheels are located at the absolute corners. A small trunk in the car has enough space for a duffel bag.
Tata Nano claims to meet the emission norms and safety requirements. Ratan Tata, at the time of the launch of the car, said that now India does have its People’s Car. It has been designed to be low on emissions and still be fuel efficient. Ratan Tata added that with the launch of their Tata Nano, they hope to bring pride and joy to those families who wish to have personal mobility.
The price of the Tata Nano is declared to be Rs. 120, 000 that includes delivery and road tax. However, this is the price for the base model. As you move on to the higher models, there will be a hike in the price and you may get more features such as air-conditioners. And you have to pay extra to get accessories like radios and sun visors.
Summary: Tata Nano is one of the smallest cars created by any Indian company. Tata Motors has accomplished its goal of creating a fuel-efficient midsize car that is available at an affordable price.
